Close the Gap

What Becomes Possible When You Coach With a Complete Framework

Most coaches are good at seeing what's wrong with a shot. Fewer know how to diagnose why it's wrong. Fewer still know how to design the practice environment that will actually fix it — and how to measure whether it's working.

The Coaches Retreat exists to close that gap. Over the course of a weekend, Coach Dave Love teaches the complete framework that underpins his work across NBA, WNBA, and NCAA programs — not as theory, but as a practical system you can apply to your own players the week you get home.

His opinions come from 15+ years of coaching at the highest level. They're supported by a formal education in skill-acquisition science, grounded in peer-reviewed research, and proven by the kind of quantifiable results NBA organizations demand. The retreat gives you access to all of it — organized into a framework you can actually use.

You'll leave with a system for diagnosing players, designing practice, and measuring development — a toolkit you can implement immediately, and a peer group of coaches working at the same standard.

The Curriculum

What's Covered

Not an Introductory Course

Who This Is For

The Coaches Retreat is for coaches who are already serious students of the game — who have started to question whether what they're teaching is actually grounded in how players learn, and who want a framework that goes beyond drills and cues.

NBA, WNBA, NCAA, and high-level international coaches are the primary audience. But any coach who holds themselves to that standard — and is ready to invest a weekend in fundamentally changing how they understand and teach shooting development — will get what they came for.

This is not an introductory course. If you're looking for a new set of drills, this isn't it. If you're looking to coach differently — with clarity, with evidence, and with a system that produces measurable results — this is exactly it.

You'll Fit Right In If You…

  • Coach at the pro, college, or high-level international level
  • Question whether your methods are grounded in how players learn
  • Want a system, not another list of drills
  • Hold yourself to a professional standard of development
  • Are ready to change how you teach shooting

The Coach Running the Retreat
Coach Dave Love

A Coach First

Coach Dave Love is a coach first. His opinions come from 15+ years of experience developing shooters at the NBA level. But he's always pushed further — asking why his methods work, not just whether they work.

That pursuit led to a formal Master's degree in Skill Acquisition in Sport, peer-reviewed publications on shooting mechanics and practice design, and a named role in a 27-month international research grant. It led to ShotMetrics — the only methodology in the world for measuring basketball spin axis — and to the CDL Coaching Toolbox, which brings that same analytical precision to coaches at every level.

The retreat isn't a course he built to sell. It's an expression of how he actually works — experience and opinion, supported by education, evidence, and results. Made available to coaches who are ready for it.
